Your Blog Master has been a little remiss in posting as of late, but I promise to do better. This is from the Alabama Point team who recorded their first 2 nests of the 2017 Sea Turtle nesting season on May 22nd. Peggy & her team do an awesome job…..
Greetings from Turtle Land!!!!!
My morning started very early. I awoke at three am, feeling as if I needed to hit the beach. I had to wait for predawn to see the sand. Got some housework done while waiting and a couple cups of coffee downed. I was covering for the team members who are away. I had the East and “Newbies” , Karen & Maggie, had the West. A little after 5:20, I spotted a very dim false crawl. It had been rained and stepped on as well as driven over. I continued on and found another crawl. I called our team communicator to text all. I had to finish the patrol. Soon, OOOHHH MY, another crawl with thrown sand. What a spectacular morning . I forgot about all the work ahead. I finished patrol and met up with Maggie, Karen, Herman, Rick and George. We started looking for eggs and Rick found them in minutes on nest I- 1. The nest was not moved. We all went to the second nest and started looking. AGAIN, Rick found the eggs in minutes. Team Newbies got a tremendous amount of training and experience today. We did move nest I- 2 and had 156 eggs! Both nests were 36″ crawls as was the false crawl.
Thanks to all who did such a grand job this morning!
