Orange Beach H-1 on Sunday Morning
Wednesday and Thursday evenings were busy and exciting times for some visitors. Here is the news from Lisa Graham (our Team Leader) on the H-2 find:
“Thanks to Rick Getsay, visitor from Nashville for running to the front desk at Phoenix 6(P6) for assistance with a sea turtle on the beach. P6 front desk called the hotline about 8:35 last night. P6 had our old flyer on their bulletin board and knew right away to make the call!!! Go P6.
Anyway I got to the beach before 9 PM and Momma T. had laid and was beginning to cover her nest. With lots of assistance from very helpful visitors and Rick, she was not disturbed. She was a little confused from the condo lighting and meandered on the beach some before returning to the water. She was not tagged. She was another big Momma – 48″ crawl width. Thanks to everyone that helped me and her!!!
We did have a couple of uncooperative men fishing in the direction she was headed. Called OBPD for assistance. A BIG THANK YOU TO OBPD FOR HELPING US WITH THAT SITUATION and providing us with Police tape. We were concerned about our nest after their [less than kind] comments.
Rusti was covering A1 this moring and spotted the nest. The ONECALLNOW was made at 5:54. The nest was undisturbed and after all the activity on the beach it turns out most of the crawl was gone. Could have been missed if not called in by Rick!
The nest was below the MHTL.The eggs were found quickly by Jane and the small nest of 66 eggs were moved to new location. Always a great way to start the day. Thanks to Cathy, Jerrie, Lance, Mark, Tina, Jane, Norm, Rusti, Lila, Greg, Joe, Gayle, Rhonda, Tommie, Jude, Dale for your help and support!!!
Thanks OB team!
[Ed note: I’ll provide the full story on H-3 later, but once again some summertime visitors found her nesting last night and made the call summoning help.]
