August 30 — H-5 Hatches!!!
Hooray!! H5 hatched last night (Aug 29th) at 10:20 pm. Lance’s nest produced 48/90 eager and well behaved hatchlings. Of course the awesome full moon helped to overpower the condo lights so most crawled straight to the gulf without looking back. Lance Jr. (First hatchling out) proudly led his brothers and sisters with the crowd chanting ” Go Lance”, Come on Lance” “Look at you Lance – you are doing so good”! It was wonderful!
H4 excavated Sunday morning (Sept 6th) – found 1 live hatchling and 104 infertile.
Some activity was being heard at the nest.
Hoping for help on this in the future. If lights can be left on during Turtle season, at least they must be turtle friendly. In the meantime, moving all nests to an area with the least amount of light pollution would be great ( everyone always asking why can’t we do this) but USF&W will not allow it.
