Orange Beach H-1 on Sunday Morning
June 14: From Lisa Graham (OB Team Leader)
Wow what a night for Momma Turtles!! We [Alabama] had 9 nests last night. New record for nests in one night! Somebody is doing some serious dance moves!!
Anyway, H-5 was found this morning by Laura in section E […clip…]. It was a beautiful crawl with a nest just at the MHTL marker. Her crawl width was a solid 43″ and she surprisingly nested in a heavy shell area. It was painful looking for her eggs so it must have been painful for her to dig her nest – ONE TOUGH MOMMA TURTLE!! It appears someone was in the area from the footprints on the tracks and on the nest so lucky we got this one!
Thanks to Laura, Michele, Ginny, Rob, Rhonda, Sherry, Joe, Krystle, Jerrie, Mark, Karen, Eve, Cathy. The eggs were found in about 10 minutes by Ginny!! Whoohoo!
HFC-5 [5th false crawl] was found this morning by Michele in B at SeaChase center tower. Momma T somehow got between the loungers and turned around and left. I checked for eggs just to be sure. I sent the pics and a message to Perdido Beach Services, Ikes, & Suncoast asking them to space their loungers further apart – at least 5′ – and advised them the incident was reported to USFW. This is the 2nd lounger issue for us. Could not get a good crawl width as she crawled out on top of her inbound track.
HFC-6 found this morning by Ginny & Rob in D at west end of Nordic Villas. This one was actually called in last night as someone took a picture which probably caused her not to nest. However, the picture identified her as tagged turtle #14. We were informed by the tag team she is a picky turtle when choosing her beach. She could have been our nester but hard to tell as her tracks were trampled. Good job Ginny and Rob on finding that one!
Have a great day!! See you on the beach!
