June 22: From Lisa G (OB Team Leader)
Got a call from Mike at 3:16 am “Turtle on beach but gone back to water” followed up by a text (which I did not read – mistake) Got a text from LOF crew at 3:54 that a nest was spotted between loungers at Phoenix West. (Spotter is not on our team so was not familiar with our beach). While patrolling I gave heads up to a few but would not send broadcast until location/nest confirmed. Got to Phoenix West with all supplies – no nest? Went to Phoenix West II with all supplies – no nest. Talked to LOF spotter and we determined it was Phoenix 1. In the meantime, I am trying to contact the volunteer in that section (C). Turns out she notified me of not being able to patrol today but I failed to put it on my calendar!! Well what can I say!! So Cathy and Tina sprinted to cover C while the whole time Suncoast [… clip…] is antsy to groom and of course where does he want to start – you got it – section C! So anyway, Turtle Broadcast was made at 6:45, eggs were found by Yours Truly – thank goodness. Tina S. and Michele G. moved 95 eggs and we were taking our team pic by 7:35!!!! Not any real good choices for relocation – did the best we could with what we had to work with. It is a very wild section of Orange Beach! Oh did I mention that Mike’s text at 3:16 am (the one I didn’t read) said turtle on beach at Phoenix 1???? OOPS!
