June 14: From Deb & Debbie (Ft Morgan team leaders)
It was a record morning for Fort Morgan Share the Beach! We had 5, yes, 5 nests this morning, plus a nest and false
crawl on the refuge. A total of 9 this morning for the Alabama Gulf Coast. Thank goodness for USGS! One nested under a tent and another, different mama laid by a log that has a ladder on it. I am pretty sure we would have missed that one. It was
only a few feet from the one under the tent.
Our patrol team of Glen and Jackie, Dale and Gracie got out early and started processing the 1st nest. Reinforcements
were called out and we started marking nests of the list. Thank you to Jane, Cathy, Robin, Rick, Barb, Vicki for jumping right up and just asking “where do you want me?” Thanks for Mike Reynolds for keeping us posted all night when USGS was finding them and Debi Gholson for verifying addresses so we were not wandering all over the beach.
Between 6 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. we had all 5 processed. Four of them had to be moved so this is an incredible feat. Vicki got to her nest in time to see the mama. Alyssa and Matt and refuge team also got to witness a mama nesting. I know it was Alyssa’s first
time. How exciting.
Jane found eggs on 2 nests and Glen found eggs on 2 nests. The race is on. Barb Nash has several under her belt.
THANK YOU TEAM!!
