From Lisa Graham (Orange Beach Team Leader) – Aug 10th:
Wow what a fun crazy night!! Got the call at 7:00, turtle at the top at H-1. Made the Call-em-all, got to H-1. Shortly thereafter, 7:19 Mary calls with turtles at the top at H-2.
H-2 Approx. 7:45, 64/121 to the water to the delight of 100+ [visitors]. Nest pretty quiet thru the night with little scratching. Excavation will be Saturday 6:00pm. No issues since daylight!!
H-1 Finally at 9:00 pm the 20 babies slowly emerged. All disoriented with 3 deciding to head south and the others were headed for condo lights of Romar Beach and inside lights of Cottage of Romar. 100+ were awwwwed by the event. Excavation Saturday after H-2. H-3 & H-4 were quiet.
Got home about 10:55, got hotline call at 11:01. Caller found eggs of unfound nest at Pelican Point!! Headed back out after stopping by office to replenish stakes. Found caller at 11:40 pm. They reported their son was digging and uncovered an egg. They recovered it and waited for me. To their disappointment, it was a plastic round toy and no nest. But, they were aware and knew the right thing to do – Thank you to this turtle caring family!
What will tonight bring??
See y’all on the beach!
