From Lisa (Team Leader):
Just when I thought patrols would be cancelled, our outstanding team headed out in the non threatening rain and Jane called at 6:30 to report a nest at east end of section D. With the weather as it was I was already group texting with today’s crew so made the decision to just call them in and not make the ONECALLNOW . We had to act fast in the rain and high tide approaching. As you will see from pics, we were limited in how many people could egg hunt due to loungers. Sorry to report after 2.5 hrs of digging we never found a nest. The rain had beat down the area, but her crawl ended at the front edge of loungers and picked back up around the back side. We came to the conclusion that she got between the loungers and probably struggled to get back out since any tracks were covered up with her moving sand. ANOTHER REASON FOR LOUNGERS TO BE OFF THE BEACH!! Our best measure was 46″ crawl width.
I might have failed to mention to our newbies- there will be times when ONECALLNOW just can’t be made. When time and/or weather is an issue we must proceed without notification.
See You on the Beach!
