Gordon’s Surprise for Alabama Point
Aug 26th: From Peggy Lively (AP Team Lead)
Good morning from Paradise,
Homer had the early pre-dawn check on I-3. No babies, all was quiet. Steve and Linda (our Adventure seekers) had patrol today. They called me early from I-3. A “boil” was happening after daylight. I grabbed a green shirt and hurried over. Homer, Steve, Linda and I quickly gathered the babies . Steve dug a trench and we ran the birds down the beach. Ellen, George, & Susie joined us . We saw 84 babies to the water. This nest has a total of 89 eggs. Susie is still hearing noises. We will watch closely during the day. If you are in the area , please check. This nest hatched on day 56. Mary has mid-day, Peggy B has sunset and Rosie will do late night.
After getting the babies to the water, Homer and I went to the Pass. While on patrol earlier, Homer had spotted a crawl near the Pass boardwalk . Two nights ago a former turtle intern had spotted a turtle coming ashore, but was frightened back in the water by a boat.
Her crawls had been obliterated by the tide. Homer and I dug for eggs, but found none. We deemed it a false crawl. Hopefully she will return. Her track width was only 24″.
I wonder what adventure awaits us next?
See you on the beach,
Turtle Mom
