Gordon’s Surprise for Alabama Point
July 25: From Peggy Lively (AP Team Lead)
Good morning,
Our team have been late to the dance—but what a party the last few days!!!!!! Nest I-6 was found today by junior member Martina Mendez while on patrol with her mom, Rosie. The nest produced 90 eggs and was moved to Mean High Tide line due to the close proximity to the water. Mama Turtle was observed from a balcony by tourists who saw her lay and then fall in a human dug hole. She exited safely and they joined us in our jubilation as we processed the nest early today. They will probably adopt the nest—-what a great group they are. We talked via phone last night and it was a joy meeting them.
We also had a false crawl with nesting attempt near I-5—-found yesterday. The mama dug a perfect open hole and threw sand. We dug but no eggs. Her crawl was small—27″.
Thanks, team, you are all awesome and work so hard.
DANCE!
Turtle Mom
