Gordon’s Surprise for Alabama Point
From Peggy Lively (Alabama Point Team Leader) Aug 28:
Greetings from Turtleland,
Just before the sun set in the West last evening, I headed to check on I-2. When I arrived Jill, a friend , was waiting at the nest. She was excited to see a sinkhole and had called Susie W. I bent to listen to the nest and the sand began to move. I stepped back and waited. Susie W arrived just as the first hatchling emerged. Susie G quickly texted the team. Within 15 minutes 30+ hatchlings waddled to the water to the cheers of the team . We visited and waited. I walked to check on I-4. I returned about 30 minutes later just as another “boil” was starting! We watched as more hatchling slowly emerged and marched to the water. A total of 82 hatchlings were safely to the water! A little before five this morning I watched as “Paula & Bruce” meandered slowly to the surf. Awesome! A total of 84 to the water!!!! The full moon drew the babies to the gentle surf .
Now on to the next adventure!
