From Lisa Graham (OB Team Leader) – Aug 7th:
H-2 – Madge, Brent and Twix arrived at H2 just before 6:00 pm to find a depression beginning to form and watched as the sand continued to fall about 3″. Flippers and heads were pulsating just under the sand ( tried to make another call but could not because still sending first msg) and we had a boil of 87/93 after sunset! Great pics and video on Facebook!
H-3 – meantime turtles had reached the top at H-3 but took a good long nap before busting loose about 10:00 pm! 90/112 babies boiled up and even though dark out, sad to say condo lights lit up the beach and the huge crowd witnessed the disoriented babies head every direction but south. We had 2 hatchlings found by tourists coming out of water trying to head to lights. The nest was still active.
H-1 1 more baby emerged and released 4:30 this morning – Thank you Krystle! 101/109 and excavation changed to 7:00 am since so much activity in the evening!
Big thank you to everyone for you help! Even bigger thank you to our volunteers that check the nests after midnight and predawn!!!
H2&H3 excavation Thursday time to be determined later.
See you on the beach!
Lisa
