August 1: From Lisa Graham (OB Team Leader)
Shockwaves this morning (Monday, Aug 1st) when Cathy checked on H-4 and found baby turtle tracks all heading north once they got past the tarp. I was at the nest till about 11:00pm and was quiet. Karen actually offered to come back and I did not think necessary. To add to the story, Mike rec’d a call on hotline 12:15am and sent me a text “baby turtles on beach at SeaChase“. I was OBVIOUSLY in a dead sleep and did not hear text and he does not remember sending – LOL. We determined it must have been Summerchase and I have left msg for caller hoping for good info like they helped turtles to the water. Will let you know. In the meantime everyone on the beach this morning came to help. We saw tracks of 12 to water and found 8. They were in the pool, dunes, lounger at Hampton Inn and tracks went as far as the lifeguard stand at Cotton Bayou. So 20 to water. Not sure if still active. SNEAKY LITTLE SUCKERS!!!
— Update Great News! —
The young men from Arkansas helped 31 babies to the water around midnight. They were sitting at loungers and a baby crawled over ones foot. They looked around saw them everywhere with about half already in the pool. YAY! That means 51 to water!
—- Additional Update (August 2nd) —-
We did have another report this morning of a visitor finding 2 more at Hampton yesterday morning at 6:45 & 7:30 released. Also fresh track report near H-4. Michele tracked [and it] appeared to be a turtle wandering from yesterday – not found.
