Orange Beach H-1 on Sunday Morning

Whoo Hoo!! We are back in action in OB!! Visitors (Jeremy & Ally) were strolling the beach last night (June 15th) before heading back to Illinois today. At first they thought there was a dead body floating in (funny what a dark night on the beach does to your mind) but they then realized it was a BIG Momma Turtle. They looked up the hotline number and called about 10:20 pm. They kept everyone back until we got there. THANK YOU JEREMY & ALLISON!!
As you can see from pics she nested very close to water. When we arrived this morning (June 16th) the tide was rising (still 5 hours away from high) and the waves were washing to within 7 ft of her nest.
{Ed note: Jeremy and Allison said there was a small group of people close to her as she was coming up last night. Did they deter her from continuing on up the beach to a safer location?}
She was a BIG strong Momma. It took Mark,Tina and myself to slow her down to check for tags. She had not been tagged before. Her crawl width 48″!! and Jeanetta found the eggs – 145 were moved. The nest was located in A2 and Bonnie would have been the lucky finder this morning. Thanks to Bonnie, Mark, Tina, Jeanetta, Jude, Paula, Karen, Jerrie, Lance, Boyd, Sheree, Norm, Jane, Skip, and Gayle!! Y’all are the best!! Group pic to follow.
Have a great day!!
Lisa
