July 27: From Lisa Graham (OB Team Lead)
The pop-up storms and high winds yesterday stirred up H-1 and babies were discovered at the top at 3:45pm in the afternoon!! The first baby strutted to the water about 5:25pm. She posed for photo ops all the way!!!
The crowd at 150+ were thrilled getting plenty of pics and video thanks to the daylight hatching!
94 more hatched at 7:12 pm. The surf was pounding with the high winds and storms hanging around but thank goodness for a strong undertow to help the babies make their way.
The team was awesome – great job with the babies and the crowd!! It was truly a great way to start the season!! The nest is still active – thanks to Greg for pulling the all-nighter to monitor and protect!!
