Orange Beach H-1 on Sunday Morning
[From Lisa Graham – 5 Aug]:
It was an exciting evening [Aug 4th] as Carol got to the nest about 6:40 and found 1 hatchling headed south just outside the barrier. The baby was escorted to the water by a nice size crowd with a little help around the obstructions/loungers. The 90 others at the top rested until after sunset but hatched before dark to a crowd of abt 200. The crowd gathered around the barrier creating a wall and causing the turtles to crawl in all directions. The team did an awesome job of collecting the babies after they imprinted 10′, counting and then releasing them at the water. The surf was perfect as just enough current to help them swim south!! One more emerged abt 10:00. A total of 92. Nest still active. We will excavate Tuesday at 6:00 pm but that is subject to change with all the activity at other nests.
We will move our monitoring time up to 6:00 pm. With this heat we could have more surprises!

See y’all on the beach!
