Give new team members Danielle Canfield and Tera Lofty (aka Publix Turtle Team) a Hi 5 for G5!
I kept getting messages with frowns at the end of their patrol and thought they didn’t believe they would find turtle tracks. I guess it just made them more determined to show me they could! This time I got a call to say they thought they found some tracks. I thought they sounded a little giddy and when I got to the area I could see why. They found a nice crawl with a picture perfect nest.
Knowing they probably had to go to work soon, I asked if they had any time to work on the nest. They let me know quickly that they had already checked with work to let them know they would be a little late. Can’t blame them, with the discovery of their first nest, I would want to stay too. One call now went out and team members started to arrive to help. It took a little searching but Tera found the eggs and the team paused for pictures.
After a brief celebration with lots of hi 5s, we finished processing the nest without relocating it. Debi Jones, Cathy Bell, Darla Rice, Doug Caudil, Bob Parris and special guest Denman Mims, intern at the state park nature center, all helped to finish the nest. I especially appreciate the help of Co Team Leader Neal Shults keeping me on point.
The Gulf State Park team is having a great year and now two of the nests have been found by new team members. Sure is a positive way to start your turtle experience!
