Gulf State Park again!
June 23: From Joe Spafford (GSP TeamLead)
Congratulations Shelli Chambley for finding nest G-5. We got the pictures just after 6 am this morning and headed down to section B to meet Shelli. Team Leader Denise Spafford started taking down the nest information and I got the one call out to the team. Caren Dixon, son and her mom Beverly Reid reported section A clear and headed over to B to help. We started the hunt for the eggs at 7:15 am sharp and they were soon found by Debi Jones. The decision had been made to relocate since the nest was at the high tide line. Neal Shults prepared a new site at the mean high tide line and 124 eggs were transferred to the new nest with care. Fran Shults made sure that all the data was recorded in the nest data sheet. I sometimes need to be reminded with all the excitement (and gabbing) going on! The work went quick thanks to the team members that showed up to help. After we took the obligatory team photo the team went on their merry way. Some adjourned to Hazel’s Nook for a well deserved breakfast or cup of coffee. Team members Shelli Chambley, Debi Jones, Lynn Doerr, Bob Parris, Cathy Bell, Darla Rice, Susanna Lax, Caren Dixon, and Beverly Reid all helped with the nest this morning. Caren had her son along for the ride and Cathy Bell’s niece Trisha came with her, she was visiting from Virginia. All in all a great morning helping sea turtles, THANKS TEAM.
