August 8th: From Joe Spafford (GSP Team Lead)
Well we have another nest, G-16 was found by new team members Meg and Donna. Both very busy ladies take time to patrol on every other Monday. But today there was a new challenge for the dynamic duo, Donna had injured her right foot and had to wear a boot. So she called on a surrogate for most of the patrol to help her partner so she could finish quickly. Wouldn’t you know there was a fly in the ointment, a turtle nest? Meg found the crawl right at the end of the patrol so Donna had to ferry her back to the patrol starting point to pick up her car. Donna wasn’t going to be left out of the fun so plastic bag over her boot and she was right in there. Both returned to help with the nest after giving notice they would be late to work. Actually you couldn’t keep them away with a stick! The team was notified and started to gather with bad weather looming off shore. We were off to a quick start and the egg search was on. Lynn found them and we got ready to relocate the nest. The move was completed and the new nest was protected and marked with signs and tape. We took a team picture that included Kaitlin, Aaron, Pam and Barry visiting from Port Barre, LA. We also had new friends and potential new team members Alice and Jodie from Oklahoma City there for most of the nest work. They have been at several of the nest activities we have had lately.
Thanks to Meg, Donna, Lynn, Cathy, Darla, Bob and Doug for all their help.
We sure have a great team to call on for help. Doug doesn’t say much but I think the team picture caught his Halleluiah while everyone was trying to figure out how to indicate 16 nests with just their hands! Boy what a day.
