July 29th: From Joe Spafford (GSP Team Lead)
Yesterday (July 28th) Kim Wade found G14 on her patrol. Mamma turtle laid far enough up the beach so we didn’t have to move it but there was something different about her crawl. It appears that she had something caught on her shell or flippers because there were markings of something being drug along behind her. A call was made to director Mike Reynolds along with the one call to the team for assistance. Everything was left untouched so that Mike could evaluate the crawl and get some pictures. After he recorded his findings the team went to work and Cathy quickly found the eggs. Mike was there to help guide us through the search process and share some of his years of experience. All the processing was finished and we got a team picture to finish up. Thanks to Kim, Cathy, Shelli, Bob, Susanna, and Doug for helping Denise and I get this one done. Denise had to head to work so we all scurried off on our way.
With G14 there have been a total of 8 nests found by new team members and 4 of those by Aimee and Shanna. Veterans are setting records too with multiple nests and more than previous years. Congratulations to the team for all these records and success and special thanks for all the work behind them. We still have a month to go and hopefully filled with good fortune. Please bear with us as we cope with all the schedule coordination. Thanks for all you do, you’re a great team!
