[From the ft Morgan Team Leaders]
We are off to an amazing start to turtle season. 8 nests in May, 7 of them from the 26th to the 29th. THEN 8 nests in 6 days so far in June. This total includes nests on the Refuge. Two of the nests are confirmed Kemps Ridley. Of course ya’ll know this means nest sitting time is going to be fun with all these ready to be watched at the same time. July should be a fun month for birthing babies.
USGS has been very busy tagging mamas and this morning placed a satellite on her so we will be able to keep up with her. Her number was 12 and we will post her name as soon as we confirm spelling. She was beautiful. She laid her eggs so close to water that they had to be moved. There were some excited visitors along with Vicki Clark who went for an early morning walk on the beach and were treated to watching USGS process her. I guess our volunteers have been busy with the turtle dance.
See you at a nest!
