Ft Morgan got nest number 5 today (May 28th). It was a heck of a day. Patrol this morning included Judy, Debbie H, Kelly and Diane P. It was Diane’s first nest. I think we have had a new volunteer on every nest. We are going to run out of newbies soon.
Momma turtle left perfect tracks and nested high in the dunes. We searched for the eggs for about an hour but since it was so early in patrol and on refuge land, we called the interns and they came to finish the nest. Well between the rain and a big body pit we finished partol and went back to the nest and picked these soaking wet great interns up.
We went back later this afternoon with a big crew. Ashley, Ally, Matthew, Aren and Eric and I went back and for sure, EGGS!! Talk about some excited folks. Aren was the egg finder and of course he rubbed it in.
She had a 41″ crawl width and knew what she was doing.
Debi G thinks it will be a busy season.
Keep up the good work, turtle mamas
