May 15th marks the day the first Sea Turtle nest of the season was found along the Alabama Gulf Coast. The Ft Morgan team starts out in the lead with a great nest find early in the morning (May 15th). Ft Morgan has a long stretch of beach and they patrol those long miles in UTVs. The riders that morning were: Claudia F, Cathy N, Kelly H and Debbie H. The lucky egg finder was Claudia, and since this nest was relocated we know there were 133 eggs (one busy momma turtle).
The team was joined by Aren C and the two interns (Ashley and Ally) from the Bon Secour Wildlife Refuge. It was the interns first nest as well as the first for Cathy and Kelly – I’m pretty sure they’re hooked with turtle fever now.
