Gordon’s Surprise for Alabama Point
HAPPY, HAPPY, JOY, JOY!!
East Beach got Nest 1 this morning! (June 5th) […clip…] This is the earliest in June we have ever gotten a nest! Great job Laura & Dick P and Paula finding the crawl!! (See pic below).
Mama Turtle had a crawl width of 36 inches. From her crawl we could tell she was dragging something on her left side as she was coming in to nest, but it was not present in her exit. Once we started digging for eggs we found the fishing line & tackle under the sand above her nest. (See pic below).
She was a really sneaky Mama – we had to dig 15 inches down to reach the top egg! She nested right in front of the wooden loungers, which was high enough up on the beach that it didn’t need to be relocated. We have no idea the number of eggs, but the ones we did see at the top were healthy & fertilized! Special THANKS to Shelley for the Great pics & to everyone who came to help.
We truly appreciate the GREAT job y’all have done so far! Continue to patrol Carefully. Keep your eyes on the sand & walk ABOVE the wrack line.
See ya at the beach,
