Fort Morgan was the place to be for turtles last night (6/25).
We had A-32. Patrol was Ally, Diane P, Kelly and Nancy.
Meanwhile BNWR (Bon Secour Wildlife Refuge)got a call about an injured turtle. The team of Donna & David, Matt, and Jackie went to the rescue. She had an injured flipper and (after lots of effort) she was transported to the Gulfarium for rehab. Her name is Charlotte and I will post more info when it is available.
Mack Mayo walks the Beach Club early every morning looking for tracks before they start putting chairs out and the foot traffic gets heavy. Today he found tracks that at first we thought was the injured turtle. Upon close inspection, in and out tracks were visible and there was a big body pit. We started working the nest and Jane came to help. Patrol stopped and they helped to dig and Nancy found the eggs in the very outer edge of the pit. It was Nancy’s 1st time to locate eggs. We put a second set of stakes outside of the nest because it is in a very high traffic area.
