Gordon’s Surprise for Alabama Point
From Debbie Harbin (FM Team Leader) June 23rd:
We had a busy night and morning. Got call at 11pm that visitors were seeing mama nesting on [the] beach […clip…]. As I am about 15 minutes from there I called team members who live on that road to check it out. Cindy and Marty Floyd and Natasha Glum went down to assist. We got there in time to see the big girl go back in the water. She had a flipper tag but she was moving too fast and the surf was too high and rough to try to get the tag number.
So we knew we had 1 nest. John Butterick covered his route and found a false crawl at Skywalk. Then he covered another route for someone who was sick and found a Nest! I would say this was his lucky day.
Then Marie Conner, Clark Fuller and Helen Whitson found one on their route!
Jane Lee found a false crawl on her route.
We worked the area where a visitor saw a turtle during the storm on the 20th and did not find eggs. It was marked as a suspicious false crawl.
The refuge also had a nest.
Thank you to all who came to help.
We have 3 nests that were a complete loss during the storm and several that had wash overs that we will hope for the best on.
Let’s hope this is it for storms for us.
Debbie
