August 29 – Some Disturbing News!
Peggy this is what I found when I got to nest I-1 last night.
I left everything like I found it so you could see it this morning.
I'm sorry i woke you last night, but I wanted to make sure you knew about it.
Mike,
We had an insult to I-1 last night between 9 and 10 p.m.
Peggy
—————
I met with OB Police about the insult to I-1 and a report was filed. I also spoke with Federal authorities.
Thanks to Rosie for the great pic last night . It was most helpful.
Peggy.

Sept 4 – More good news – & another non-conformist
Last night a cheering crowd saw 71 hatchlings to the water as they emerged from I-4. I am hearing more scratching this morning! The hatchlings were very large with excellent instincts. Thanks to all the team who assisted and a BIG thanks to Rick W for all the “baby-sitting”.

I checked all 9 nests. A VERY large ,unkempt dog was roaming unleashed inside the barrier at the Perdido Place nest. I found a lady[the owner] at the Bella Luna boardwalk and asked her to leave with the dog.

Sept 6 -Why do people insist on destroying that which is not theirs ? [Ed..]
Team,
Great job monitoring on the busy holiday. We have encountered several dog issues this year. Please call O.B. police if you have dogs at a nest or on the beach. Three dogs were at or near nests in the last 24 hours! …clip]

Sept 9 Update
I-5
One lone baby to the water around five this morning. I am not hearing any sounds after the release. I have decided to wait to excavate since this appears to be a “trickle” nest, unless we have a “boil” tonight. […clip]

Sept 12th rainy excitement
Good Morning,
The heavy rain kept me from nest checking at the usual time before dawn. I arrived at I-6 a little before six and it was still dark. As I looked into the nest all I could see were turtles! I quickly texted Carrie to alert the team. I filled the bucket with sand and watched one more emerge. I put the hatchlings in the bucket—Oh My ! Dawn was approaching . It was misty raining. I dug a trench (not a very good one due to the fact I was in a hurry). I dug from where the Mom had laid the clutch. The hatchlings were very healthy and only one decided to go back North. One baby even bit my glove—very aggressive!
Two gulls appeared as the last babies were entering the Gulf waters. I chased them down the beach. I stayed for a long time being sure they all went out to sea safely. Rick W and I heard no sounds from I-6 later this morning.
[…clip]
No sounds on I-5. Excavation will be today at six-thirty. This nest has produced only nine babies. I do not know what we will find upon excavation.
Keep dancing!
