Gordon’s Surprise for Alabama Point
Sept 5th: From Peggy Lively (AP Team Leader)
Good morning,
I left early to patrol the nests. A soft gentle rain was falling. No sounds on I-4. As I approached false crawl I-5 I noticed a HUGE ghost crab crawl. (We had marked this area after digging for 2 hours). I went to dig the crab out and noticed something dark. A baby hatchling!!!!!! Our false crawl had turned into a nest!!!!!!!! I called Mike for advice and alerted the team. On Mike’s advice we did a nest assessment. Fifty-five had escaped the nest during the torrential rains. We will be monitoring this very closely. There are over 40 eggs remaining. You never know what can be found on turtle patrol!!!!!!! I-5 false crawl is now I-8 nest! I have been checking this every day while on patrol. The nest had been washed-over during the extreme tides. I wonder what the next adventure will be????
See you on the beach,
Turtle Mom
