July 4 & 5: From Lisa G (OB Team Leader)
First July 4th:
Wow! 5 false crawls today! 3 in E found by RHONDA, 1 in D reported by Jane and Tina K found her first crawl today in A2. Does that mean we almost had 3 or more nests today???? OMG! [Ed Note: Was it a premonition?] All were in and out. Only got 1 measured 38″. High tide and people got the others before we could measure.
Only 1 nest on Ft Morgan last night, so they could try again tonight.
Be ready! See you on the beach!
Lisa
Now on to the 5th:
Good gosh almighty!!! Another ASTOUNDING morning in OB!!! I am really wondering if our Mommas are reaching maturity sooner than predicted!!! Anyway below are the the details:
H-16 was first spotted by LOF crew and Debbie Waldrop as spotter. Got her call about 4:30. You guessed it – section B gets another one! Momma T. was covering her nest when I got there. I called Cathy on my way since it was in her back yard. Thanks to Cathy, Jimmy Hall (owner Ruby Slipper) for helping get her tag no. Michele was on patrol so she gets this one! The nest was not moved – whooohoooo! 41″ CW. Eggs found by Cathy. Thanks to Cathy, Michele, Gayle, Jane, Norm, for processing in record time.
FCH-19 call came in at 5:23 by Joe with a false crawl at Romar House section C. In and out.
H-17 call at 5:38 from Joe and Denise Spafford, GSP team leaders spotted nest as they made their way to their section. Laura was on patrol in E and confirmed her second nest of the season!!! Thanks to Mark, Tina, Laura, Lisa, Jerrie, Rhonda, Jude, Karen!!! Was not there hope I did not leave anyone out!! Something caused her to lay close to water and drop 5 eggs ( birds tried to get them) on her exit. 110 eggs were relocated. 40″ CW
H-18 call at 6:19 from Ginny & Rob!! Nest finally in section D!! Just east of Aunt Martha’s. Most of the team made it to the nest after processing the first 2. Norm is getting good at this egg hunt. They were found under his “X”! Not sure who found eggs, but big thank you to Ginny, Rob, Lisa S, Loran ( drove from Fairhope and made it in time to help move the eggs), Jane, Norm, Michele, Karen, Gayle!!! We also had James and RJ with OB Public Works out grooming, flagged them down so they could be a part of the excitement!! 123 eggs relocated. 43″ CW.
Our team would probably fight me on this one but I am ready to put out the “NO VACANCY” sign for a few days. We could add “Head East”!!
Having a great day in Turtleland!!!
See you on the beach!
