Gordon’s Surprise for Alabama Point
From Jan (Team Leader):
Tag team call @ 1 am – had turtle. Cathy E. and Kathy A. were called and met the team. Momma came right in nested and then took a 700 ft meandering stroll eastward before the team came upon her. She had been previously tagged with satellite in 2011 (Linda). The tide had come in 15′ from 2 am to 6 am. Kathy and Cathy were there to help this morning. Kathy A. found the eggs….116 were relocated.
Bonnie and Richard had patrol of all three sections today. Richard called as we were processing B10 and I looked eastward and could see him walking towards us.His question was, did the tag team report another one last night. Oh, my we got another one. After moving B10 we headed to […clip…] and there was a body pit 14 ft long, with two areas that looked like a nest. Sorry to report that we did not find any eggs after six of us dug for over an hour. We had a pit 16′ x 11′ when we got done. [Ed note: I feel your pain, OB had one like that this morning] This is the second time in 4 days we have had a false nesting that looked like the real thing. This momma also took a stroll eastward several hundred feet before going back into the water.
I am also sorry to report that B5, which was not moved, was being washed over this morning.
Pictures will follow later.
Have a great day.
