Nest!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After patrol was done, I got calls from the walkers today while I was on the beach looking for oil. I recieved a call from Mike - a possible nest was spotted near the Ono bridge area. I called Rob and started running down the beach---knowing that equipment was already down there. Rob drove down and spotted the 2 crawls immediately. Patty called team members and Rob and I started processing the nest. It is HOT on the beach! Within 10 minutes Papa Egg (RoB) found the eggs! He is so very good at this---his special talent.

The nest produced 105 very pretty and fresh eggs. With the help of Herman and Gale we moved the nest due North. Mama laid too close to the water's edge.

A contract worker, Otis Goodman, spotted the crawl and gave info to a city employee. We thank him so much!

This was a very special find today and will surely boost my spirits. I did the turtle dance last night.

Keep the Faith!

I2 - Found July 14, 2010

Greetings Turtle Lovers,

I received a very early call today from Judy. Her husband, German, had found a very long crawl and an obvious nest area as he began his patrol. Party Girl Mama had nested just inside the State Line. The tracks are 27 inches--the same as the 2 false crawls of previous nights. She finally found the right spot to nest or had enough partying.

After looking for awhile Gale decided to move more to the South and found 125 beautiful eggs! Thanks to all who assisted and the wonderful visitors who asked such great questions and showed such a keen interest. Thanks to Bruce for his filming and adopting our nests. You are all the best!

My granddaughters who invented the "Turtle Dance"--many moons ago---are in town from Pennsylvania. They stayed up late and danced. Now that they are teens I could not get them up to dig for eggs. Oh well--guess they did the important part!

I3 Found July 25

Happy Sunday,

Before six a. m. today my phone rang. Patty was calling to say Rob had a nest!

In eight years of faithfully patrolling the beach , he had never found one. We affectionately call him "MR. EGG" due to the fact he is awesome at finding the clutch. Congratulations, Rob! Cindy upstaged Rob and found the eggs. We could not allow Rob to do it all.

My seventeen year-old granddaughter is visiting this week. Ashleigh is one of the original "Turtle Dancers". She and I danced to the moon late last night as we have done for nine summers. This is also her first nest and she jumped out of bed at the word turtle. She said this has been a wonderful memory to carry in her heart.

Thanks to all the team who helped move and locate the eggs. Due to the eroding beach the nest had to be relocated. A big thanks to Bruce for filming and adopting another nest. You are all awesome to jump up at such an early hour on a Sunday.

I1 - Hatched August 4

Greetings from the Point,

I checked I-1 early today and noticed a large ghost crab hole in the center of the nest area. I knew we would be crating the eggs this afternoon, so I covered it over. When Diane, Bruce, Herman and I arrived at 4:45 to prepare the crating, I noticed a large "sink-hole". I was astounded to see this so early. It has been unusually HOT and perhaps if this continues we will have early hatchings. Two years ago it was real cool and rainy bringing about very late hatchings.

I listened with the scope, but heard only waves , traffic, and talking.

When everyone arrived we started gently scraping the sand to find the clutch. I was only a few inches deep and found a hatchling! The babies were ready to emerge! I was so delighted I actually yelled BABY!!!!!! As I looked down more were coming. We had a very good amount of pippped eggs that became fully emerged as we watched. We even had a set of twins!!!!! What a blessing today was. It has been a long , hot summer with all the oiled beaches and obstacles we have had put in our paths. Today reminded me to be thankful for the little things .

The hatchlings, and pipped eggs are safely on their journey to safer waters in Cape Canaveral via Fedex. Thanks to Kate & Steph for getting them to the truck. And A Big Thanks to Diane Ingram for all of her expert knowledge and assistance today. Thanks to each and every team member who gave assistance and to Bruce Alexander for filming. Thanks to Turtle Czar for always being there. ( I feel like I just won an Academy Award!)

Today is another beutiful memory to keep in my heart forever.
