B1 - Found May 22
First nest for Alabama. Laguna Key found a nest (127 eggs) and a false crawl this morning. Looks like the same turtle, 39" crawl, same tail drag.

B1 - Hatched July 18
From Jane (she runs the hatching facility set up at Kennedy Space Center):

Alabama Nest 1 - 18 hatchlings were ready early this morning and released. They were full of energy and released well. There are clear signs that more will go tonight and perhaps in the coming nights.

Final release numbers from that nest will be reported over the next few days.

I am a Go Gator mom-- but last night it was ROLL TIDE!:)

Hello! I will post any photos of hatchlings as soon as I receive them. I know that we don't traditionally photograph hatchings because the flash disturbs the little guys, but these are strange times - so you never know.

B2 - Hatches August 15
77 of 87 (plus or minus) boiled during Ken and Jan's 6 hour shift last night. Then 5 more close behind. Jan and Ken delivered these babies to the Refuge Office where they were placed in the transit van. We think 82 in all went to St Joe Bay State Buffer Preserve where they were set free in Gulf waters and were they READY! These hatchlings were quite vigorous! Many thanks to Dianne for holding the van that had already picked up hatchlings from Ft. Morgan.

Later, 2 dawdlers made their way to our Gulf watched by Linda and Tom, Rick, Miss Alice and family and myself. It was truly a lovely peaceful wonderful experience.

Only 3 are unaccounted for and the nest remains quiet.

Thanks to EVERYBODY that gave their precious hours to sit this nest 24/7 , especially in this stormy weather. If it is true that "the gift is in the giving", then may we all feel the rewards from this precious loggerhead hatching...
