Gordon’s Surprise for Alabama Point
From Peggy Lively (AP Team Leader) June 23rd:
At 6:27 this morning, Linda texted me. The Elberta crew had a crawl!!! She thought it may be a false crawl, since big Mama had hit a sand fence. They continued on patrol and I hurried to the crawl. Wow! It measured 44″ and the left flipper appeared to have a deformity. She went to the dune fencing and I observed some thrown sand and mashed sea oats. I was not sure we had anything, but deemed enough to warrant exploring. Called Rosie with info. Maggie, Careysue, Paul, Herman, George, Linda, Bud,& Janet came to assist. Within minutes Paul found a soft spot and Careysue found eggs!!!!! The clutch was only 11″ down. This was a strong Mama that fought the waves to bring her eggs ashore. I am glad she did not heed the double red flag warning!
ALL NESTS ARE SAFE! I-5 has sand deposited and was washed over for 3 days.
Thanks ,Team, for all you do! This is an awesome year and a SUPER TEAM!! Get rested. We have a very busy time ahead with hatching time fast approaching.
